For someone who loves sensual experiences so much and is a huge fan of synesthesia, the Omni Hotels are the perfect destinations. They have recently created a "Sensory Advisory Board" and have begun to
transform their hotels into completely sensory environments. They speak of pomegranate lip balm, mohito jellybeans, scents of lemongrass and green tea, lavender-misted pillows and bedsheets, etc. sounds delicious. I should find out if the Omni here has put this into effect yet, and then book a night there. Would that be odd?
no. it would not be odd. because i've been DYING to do the same thing.
ReplyDeletei love sleeping in hotels. nice ones with awesome beds. with easy access to a kick ass brunch.
yup,
danielli
we had a "salon" a few years ago with the theme being " A Celebation of the Senses"- everyone was supposed to have thought about things to talk about- the food and drink and atmosphere was all carefully planned to create a sensory journey- foods were grouped by color, incense burned, music was tactile- susannah read up a lot on synesthesia and did a presentation of sorts for the group- some folks really got into it- others were a bit freaked out- we were trying to be a bit over the top and "stylized" in our presentation,
ReplyDeleteJohn, that sounds amazing! wow. Have you heard of the synesthesia fashion project? I'll dig it up for you if you're interested. A guy is working with prominent fashion designers (he is a synesthete), and writing music to go along with each piece. Also, I actually thought about having color-themed meals yesterday! a chard and radish salad (that might be gross, but I'm thinking in reds here), a steak, some shiraz, a red velvet cupcake, etc.
ReplyDeletehave not heard of the fashion project- sounds interesting. Do you know the French artist Sophie Calle ? She has done some work on monochromatic meals- she is doing lots of provocative work, much of it based on her recording experiences- i have been playing around with some ideas for years- I have recorded all of my dinners for the last several years- someone beat me to the picture record, but I an still chewing on other ideas- its part of a larger project based on the politics and aesthetics of consumption.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of.... I am using my new toy- a 14 inch I Book sitting on my inlaws deck at Smith Mtn Lake, trying to do some work but distracted by the new Rainer Maria record and the free wifi from one of the neighbors,
Here is the link to the synaesthesia fashion project. It's great, if you read everything about it. They also kind of maintain a blog to update. I have heard of Sophie Calle! amazing stuff.
ReplyDeleteI hope you're enjoying your iBook - did you name it? Mine's name is Stella. How's the new Rainer Maria? Did you see them when they played in Plan 9 a couple of months ago?
