Polaroid mobile

Thanks to two of my favorite people, I have a new mobile.

Thank you Jeremy & Julie!
Dylan Trees saw the mobile in California and mailed it to me. I had mentioned that I wanted to try to make one; this took care of the skeleton and left the rest up to me: it just has little clips on it, from which one can attach anything.

My pen pal, Julie, has been sending me beautiful Polaroids every now and then, for the past two years. I chose ten from my now-sizable stack and clipped them on. The whole thing is so light that even the tiniest draft from opening my door can make them flutter around like silent wind chimes.

Heartfelt thanks to both of you* for making the first thing I see when I wake up not a white ceiling and wall.

* And thank you to one Very Tall Boy for helping me with the ceiling hook and hanging it up there for me!

Benoît Pioulard.

I have talked about Benoît Pioulard before, and I will talk about him again. My friend Soraya put a song of his on a winter mix CD for me last December. It instantly became my favorite track on the disc, and I had it on repeat for weeks. I bought his album (which happens to be on Kranky - excellent) from iTunes; now it's my most-played album (yes, still). I probably annoy everybody at Naked playing this thing.

He's not just a musician; when I was in Ohio for Memorial Day Weekend, Benoît posted a Bulletin on MySpace selling some Polaroid sets he had put together. I was lucky enough to respond quickly enough to get one of my top choices, which is (I am proud to say) the one from his splash page.

I just - much to my nextdoor neighbor's chagrin - nailed it to my wall last night. Now I see it every morning when I wake up. It reminds me of my childhood in Puerto Rico.

Thank you, Thomas.

Ah, look!

This was delivered to Naked today from my darling friend Nicole. It's called OK OK OK by Mike Slack. Doesn't just looking at that cheerful cover make you want to smile?

I don't know too much about the photographer or the book, but I love it. There is a single instant photograph on each page. And it was signed. The photos are of things that one might pass by every day without a second glance. Reminds me a lot of William Eggleston. I love the aesthetic of Polaroids, love how minimlist and straight-forward it is. What a beautiful book. Thank you, Nicole.
