Oh, so that explains the huge media buy I noticed that Macy*s did for this premier. They have an "accessories wall" on the show now. It hasn't always been there, has it? Wasn't it Banana Republic before? I wonder why they backed out.
What do you think about that - mentioning the TreSemme hair salon, L'Oreal makeup room, Macy*s accessories wall? Smart to keep the name of the brand top-of-mind constantly, or annoying, which would lead to the opposite of the desired effect?
Banana Republic sponsored the workshop/studio before, although I don't remember there being an accessories wall before either? Last season, BR agreed to carry an outfit designed in one of the challenges... maybe it tanked and the Project Runway-Banana Republic relationship soured! Hah! Or maybe the PR crew wants to keep things "fresh" and broaden their associations?
ReplyDeleteDo you ever watch that show "What Not To Wear" on TLC? They're constantly pimping the Colgate Whitestrips mid-show. It feels so insincere and although it frustrates me that the ads and commercials continue to permeate every single thing in American life (sorry, I'm not in the industry! ^_^), it makes the product seem more ... relevant.
I haven't found it annoying yet. In fact, I'm fascinated by the L'Oreal makeup room, esp. when they whip out those airbrush conceler contraptions for the models. I really wish they made those for regular people. Or do they??? I think it would be great if L'Oreal went on to provide information on "how to" get each look (i.e. on their website or in the aisles of grocery stores.)
ReplyDeleteI also think Macy*s is a better fit for the show. Banana Republic has a mold that I can't see many of the designers fitting into, especially this seasons contestants. Even Chloe apparently isn't going to work with them.
I think Macy*s is a better fit as well. Especially since they hold so many different labels and designers, just like the point of the show, yes?
ReplyDeleteI think it would be better if those brands will amplify what they have been done in The project Runway into their resources eg. website, POP, magazine or even fitting room. The show become the reality.
ReplyDeleteI find the constant brand referencing annoying, but then, I am very easily annoyed by repetitive advertising. (I especially hate when one TV channel shows only the same 5 ads at EVERY commercial break).
ReplyDeleteThe mid-show ad plugs reminds me of The Truman Show. Do you remember where they do that in it?

I vaguely remember what you're referring to, in the Truman Show. I should watch that movie again. Thanks Holly :)
